Mind to Mind
For nearly forty years, "D" Groups
("discipleship and development" groups) have provided rigorous Christian training and peer support for servants of Christ.
In "D"groups, members remain together while they explore a range of core Christian leadership topics. Instead of individual learners taking different courses, the D-group journeys together across topics and fields. This allows members to combine the benefits of traditional instruction and mentorship with experiential and relational learning.
The D-Groups Project
aims to put existing D-Group training into accessible written materials that can be used by mentors and teachers at-large in the Kingdom of God.
D-Group training
Originally, "discipleship" and "leadership development" groups, D-Groups provide robust training across multiple fields, including spiritual formation, Christian leadership, biblical interpretation, speaking and communication, pastoral counseling, social and organizational dynamics, mission, worship arts and discipleship.
The D-Group journey
D-Groups are shared growth experiences. Participants wrestle together with tough concepts in a mentored environment where they can
explore
safely and help each other grow in faith and service. Most members walk together for an average of 4-5 years.
Passing it on
In order to join a D-Group cohort, members must agree to make three essential commitments: to be fully present, to be confidential and to mentor someone else at some time during the course of their Christian lives.
As of July 2020, Built Deep has turned to the work of preparing publishable materials for future D-Group leaders. The D-Groups Writing Project
will make fulfilling the commitment to mentor others more attainable for hundreds of current D-Group "grads" and make the D-Group journey available to the next generation of Kingdom workers.
A hefty project
An average D-Group cohort meets for 150-180 sessions. The D-Groups Writing Project
aims to produce curriculum that gives instructional guidelines and learning outcomes, content and background resources for each D-Group session, including optional and alternate sessions. The target goal is to finish the materials in 2023.
